PERFORM WITH ARTISTRY – MATHEW WRIGHT (UK)

Great choirs sing with flawless and seemingly effortless technical skills. Fine intonation, rhythmic accuracy and phrasing, resonance, balance, dynamic sensitivity and tone quality underpin great performances. But audiences want to be moved by what they hear; they love to see performers emotionally invested and perform with a genuine and authentic connection. They may forgive a wrong note, but never a lack of energy, passion and commitment. In this workshop we explore how to elevate choral performances and make them compelling for audiences and competition juries alike!

Mathew Wright is founder and Artistic Director of the award-winning Barnsley Youth Choir, a community choir of 650 members based in an area of significant deprivation. He has worked in Education at Primary, Secondary, Tertiary and University levels as an Advanced Skills Teacher and Regional Director of Education for a large Education Trust. Mat is a composer and arranger and is in demand internationally as a clinician, workshop leader, conductor and adjudicator.
