MEDALS OF THE

13TH WORLD CHOIR GAMES

In a departure from a conventional circular medal shape, the medals of the 2024 World Choir Games reference the toki, a traditional Māori pendant shape, often used in the carving of pounamu. The toki shape symbolizes dedication, bravery and success. A toki pendant is often given as a gift – a token that forms a lasting connection and bond. The base of the medal is cut at an angle, and this angle is repeated in the medal design to create a sense of thatching – a reference to the traditional binding methods used on a toki pendant. The thatched pattern also appears on the medal’s ribbon. Each medal also features tā moko (tattoo) artist Graham Tipene’s ‘wave’ design as seen on the World Choir Games 2024 trophies.
